Built in Nashville for Tennessee’s 1897 Centennial Exposition, The Parthenon is the city’s art museum and the centerpiece of Centennial Park. Sept. 1 – Jan. 10, 2015, it presents the largest exhibit of socially engaged artwork presented in the south. Modeled on ideas of the Greek agora, the FLEX IT! My Body My Temple exhibit invites people to use both the Parthenon Museum and Centennial Park as a central gathering place to consider and engage in healthy lifestyles.
Acting within an evolving framework of collaborative artistic works, the FLEX IT! exhibit developed over time as projects unfolded and people participated. Beginning May, 2014, FLEX IT! artists began travelling to Nashville from as far away as Hong Kong to make art with and for the Nashville community. Their ongoing works may be viewed both inside the museum and on park grounds through January 10, 2015. The show continues as FLEX IT! Expands to the Jacobs Center in San Diego for a one day event on March 21st.
